Newborn Information
I am looking forward to meeting your new baby very soon! For now, a little snippet of information before you arrive but above all else, the one thing to remember is that the session is all about baby, we will work together to ensure a happy, warm, content little bundle during your time here.
Where to go:
I have moved house so if you are a returning client please note my address is now 8 Scotsman Valley Road, Tauwhare. We are 10 minutes from Morrinsville and 15 minutes from both Hamilton and Cambridge so really centrally located. It is a longish driveway and the entire property is lined with hedges so you can't see much from the road but there is of course a number 8 at our gate. If you have any problems finding us give me a call - 027 630 5467.
My purpose built studio is right off the driveway, those large glass doors are where you will be heading,
Baby prep:
If baby has had some awake time prior to leaving home this will mean he/she is hopefully ready to be fed and settle to sleep during their session. If baby has been left to sleep for several hours prior to your arrival it could mean we will have an alert, awake baby that isn't ready for another long sleep so I recommend some awake time before leaving home.
If your baby is over 4 weeks old they may be too alert to settle into the sleepy poses however I will try all of my soothing tricks to help your baby to sleep.
Newborn Session FAQ:
How long will the session take?
Newborn sessions typically take 2-3 hours which allows plenty of time for feeding and settling. Some babies will drift off quite quickly whilst others take a little more soothing. If baby has had some 'awake' time at home prior to your arrival this will help. Often, if baby is asleep from the car trip I will wrap over the clothing for the first set up so please dress baby lightly if possible.
What will my baby wear?
Most often I will wrap baby in my extensive collection of wraps so you don't need to worry about several outfits for your little one. If you would like your baby dressed for the sibling &/or family images please bring an outfit for this otherwise I have a good selection of blankets, hats, headbands & props here that we can use during your session. If you have something special you would like to include in your session please feel free to bring this along with you and I will do my best to incorporate this into your images.
What do I wear?
Many parents often ask what I recommend they wear. For newborn imagery I recommend something simple like a classic black white, cream, grey or navy. Flowing, loose fabric is also recommended for a new Mum as it is very flattering. In terms of Dad I would try to avoid stripes or any large logos as well as the older siblings as they can be very distracting when the image comes together. Also, glitter or sparkly outfits don't tend to photograph very well so whilst they are beautiful in real life, the sparkle doesn't show up in photographs. Some families like to choose a colour palette of 3 or so colours and base their clothing around those colours or tones. Ultimately though, these are your portraits and you can wear whatever you please, colour co-ordinated outfits are for some people but not all - do what feels right for your family.
What else do I need to bring?
If you have a dummy/pacifier at home please bring this along, we may not even need it but if you have one it may come in handy during your session. It is also a good idea to bring along a small snack & a water bottle for yourself as 2-3 hours is a long time for a new Mum to go without a quick bite. You can eat, drink and relax while I work with your little bundle.
If you have any other queries please feel free to contact me - otherwise I will see you soon!
Cheers,
Emma
